Would you prefer to use your very own URL — like ilovemom.com or photos.bedazzle.me? Doing so is simple, if a bit technical-sounding. Just follow the steps below to set everything up!
- If you don't have a name already, purchase one (usually ~ $10 USD / year). We provide guides for setting up a custom domain name with Namecheap.com (a price leader) and Godaddy.com (a pinup leader), and iWantMyName offers automatic setup (so you can skip the "General registrar guide" below), but any domain-seller is fine.
- Go to your Jux Account settings ⇢ https://jux.com/users/edit
- Enter your domain in the custom domain name field, verify your password, and click "Update".
- Then, follow the specific guides below to set up an A Record on your domain registrar. You only need to change your domain or sub-domain's A Record, not its nameservers. You don't need to forward or redirect anything. It may take time for any changes to update. Sit tight :-).
General registrar guide:
- Follow your domain registrar's instructions to create an A record. An A record associates a name (e.g., myname.com) with a numeric IP address (at Jux). Here are guides from Name.com, Network Solutions and 1&1, or see GoDaddy/Namecheap instructions below.
- You can create the A Record for your existing domain (yourname.com). In this case, most registrars will automatically handle www.myname.com as well. Alternatively, you can create a record for a new subdomain, like me.yourname.com.
- Set the IP ADDRESS to Jux's: 50.16.219.219.
If you bought your domain with GoDaddy:
- Follow the instructions to create an A Record here. Or watch this straightforward video:
- Set the Host Name to "@". (To map a subdomain such as blog.yourname.com, set the Host Name to that subdomain).
- Set the IP ADDRESS to "50.16.219.219".
- Optional: Set the TTL to "1/2 Hour". This minimizes the delay for new changes to update (it's the shortest amount of time).
If you bought your domain with NameCheap:
- Follow the instructions here.
- Set the IP ADDRESS to "50.16.219.219".
- In the RECORD TYPE dropdown, choose "A (Address)".
- Optional: Set the TTL to "300".
